Over the past few weeks I have struggled. We have been focused on learning to develop spreadsheets for seed calculations which is an area I am unfamiliar with. The best part about it is that I have learned so much. I have made a working calculator that can pull information from one document to another, which is a major skill set for the turf industry. Not only will it be useful for seeding but also with other areas of work, such as job boards and budgeting. Something most employees wouldn’t even consider when thinking about golf course maintenance, however, it is an integral part of a superintendent’s roll. To be able to document with ease allows for an understanding of how everything is run and could possibly be run more efficiently. Eventually I would like to move on to another golf course as an assistant superintendent and having the ability to use tools like this can improve my ability to do so.
