This summer has been a big change, ultimately for the better. Not only did we all have to adapt to the changes brought on by covid but also mixing school projects into our daily routine. As a foreman I see how our super intendant runs things such as irrigation or other cultural practices but do not always understand the reasoning behind those decisions. This summer however, due to the projects we performed it started to make sense. By running my own experiments I’ve started to learn the reasoning behind things and understand the benefits those decisions provide for our turf. I am extremely excited to continue this learning and continue to test different areas of our course to better understand what the turf needs and ultimately make more of the important decisions required. I intend to perform some of the projects we have worked on such as irrigation tests throughout our property to understand our course at a deeper level. This summer felt like a little taste of what it’s like to be in a super intendant position and has encouraged me to continue with bettering myself not only for our golf course but also any future courses I work at.
