This week in our irrigation class we learned how to audit an irrigation system. With my limited knowledge of irrigation, I found this to be extremely informative. By learning the correct way to audit and set up an irrigation system we can ensure our system is more efficient, reducing dry spots throughout the course while reducing the amount of wasted water. Each year the topic of water restriction comes up and is becoming more and more of an issue for Alberta courses. With these restrictions becoming more apparent each year it is not only important to use less water but by performing an audit you can make the appropriate adjustments to maximize the efficiency of the irrigation system.
After learning this process I am keen to use this knowledge to perform my own audit at my home course. I hope to understand where our system can be improved and make the appropriate adjustment to help the course I am currently at as well as any other course in my future to save water and deliver the most aesthetically pleasing product we can.
